Resources for Customer Education and Protection
Online security is very important to us at Ninnescah Valley Bank. The best defense against online criminals is for our customers to remain as informed as possible. We strive to provide you, our customer, with tips and tools to protect you against phishing and identity theft.
Ninnescah Valley Bank will never call, email or otherwise contact you to request your access ID, password, or other log-in credentials for any online services. If you receive such a request, do not provide any information. Contact us at 620-298-2511 to report any such incident.
Password/Passcode Security Tips
- Do not share your User ID’s, Passwords or Passcodes with another person.
- Safeguard your User ID and Password information–never leave the information in an unsecured location.
- Create a unique User ID and Password/Passcode for each site. Do not use the same identifying information on multiple websites.
- Create strong User ID’s and Passwords/Passcodes. In other words, use upper case letter(s), lower case letter(s), number(s), and special character(s) (!@#$%^&*)
- Take the initiative and change your password/passcode on a regular basis even if a website does not require you to. Many websites force password/passcode changes (i.e. every 60 days).
Website Security Tips
- Use our ALERTS in online banking to help monitor account activity.
- View account activity online on a regular basis and review periodic account statements (monthly and/or quarterly) and reconcile them to your personal records.
- Secure websites have a web address that includes an “https” instead of just “http”. If the “s” is not included, then the site is likely not genuine. Do not log in or conduct business on the site.
- If a website displays a security monitor, verify it has the current date. If it does not, do not use the site; it may be spoofed or hijacked.
- Verify encryption and other security methods are in place when completing financial transaction to protect account and personal information.
- Log Off from a website; do not just close the page or “X” out.
Network/Computer Security Tips
- Use quality security monitoring software on your PC that includes anti-virus, anti-malware and firewall functions.
- Keep PC operating systems secure and current by applying patches and updates.
- Password-protect your physical or wireless computer network.
